Frequently Asked Questions

CHYSALIS: THE LIMINAL SPACE BETWEEN THE TRANSITION FROM CATERPILLAR TO BUTTERFLY.

What is GATE?

GATE is a nonprofit membership organization for Creative Artists, (and business professionals in the entertainment, arts and media domains) who are committed to transformation in their own lives and who want to bring transformation into their work for the benefit of the world.

Who formed GATE, and why?

GATE was founded by public relations pioneer, John Raatz, and invited honorary co-founders, international bestselling author/teacher Eckhart Tolle and actor/artist/activist Jim Carrey. GATE was created in response to the observed inner and outer needs of Creative Artists and a growing desire of Creatives and others, worldwide, for entertainment, arts and media content that speaks to our spirits and souls, that nurtures and inspires our highest aspirations for ourselves and for humanity as a whole.

What does GATE do?

GATE’s activities are all expressions of its fourfold mission:  Inner Transformation, Education, Collaboration and Advocacy.  GATE offers a variety of activities and services to members. Among these are its two major annual events, the GATE Celebration of Transformational Entertainment and Media (GATE 1, 2, 3, Etc.) and the GATE Transformational Story Conference.  The first GATE Transformational Film Festival is scheduled for February, 2013, in Los Angeles, as well as presentation of the first GATE Imaginal Awards for Excellence in Transformational Entertainment and Media.  GATE also awards the GATE Seal to content it recommends. Screenings, seminars, lectures and workshops are also available to members.

Can I submit my entertainment or media project or idea to GATE for consideration / endorsement?

GATE is a support organization for Creative Artists and professionals in entertainment, arts and media - not a production or distribution company or agency at this time. As such, we currently do not accept, or forward, unsolicited entertainment and media projects. In the future, GATE Entertainment Media (GEM) and GATENation plans to provide production, distribution and agency services for approved projects.

Artists can submit their creative works for GATE Seal consideration, a form of endorsement, and for consideration in participation in the GATE Imaginal Awards.

GATE generally doesn’t endorse or sponsor ventures that aren’t directly related to GATE’s vision/mission and/or the interests of GATE members, or in which GATE does not have a direct participation and benefit from. The GATE Board and GATE Leadership Circle may be petitioned and consideration may be requested and the Board and Leadership Circle may consider and grant an exception if a quorum favors the circumstances of the exemption.

First and foremost, GATE nurtures, personally and professionally, Creative Artists. Additionally, GATE seeks to expand the transformational genre helping to build a worldwide movement supporting transformational entertainment, arts and media. We advocate for this category as a whole, not for any particular project.  We need to specifically avoid supporting any particular project, as our mandate is global and genre-wide; as a member trade association, we must not become identified with any specific content.

What if I’d like to share/present GATE, formally, to a group of people, an organization or a company?

The starting point for a “GATE approved” presentation would be to share it (a written plan or presentation outline) with the GATE Board so we can be assured that the presentation is aligned with GATE’s preferred language and approach to the subject. We ask that, if necessary, you be open to considering and making any suggested content changes in order for it to be so aligned. Of course, we would discuss any such changes with you so you have an understanding of the “why” underlying them, if any. Once we agree with the content, you will have our blessings for it to be called “GATE approved.” Two requests: that you please allow us to publish your presentation on the GATE website, and that you consider displaying a slide in your presentation with the GATE logo, tagline and URL. These are not requirements, only requests. This sounds very formal! The bottom-line is that we are grateful for your enthusiasm and willingness to consider the possibilities that transformational entertainment, arts and media offer to a world in need of perennial wisdom!

Are there any job opportunities at GATE?

At this time, all GATE staff positions are volunteers giving selflessly of themselves to grow the GATE vision / mission worldwide. We anticipate hiring staff at such time as our budget permits and we will post an announcement on this website.

Does GATE provide funding for independent entertainment, arts and media projects?

At this time, GATE is not a solo funding source per se; GATE may assist in raising funds for projects aligned with its vision/mission and in which it has a proprietary business interest.

it is a professional trade membership nonprofit organization crated to bring together those professionals in the entertainment and media communities who are transformationally oriented and who desire to use entertainment and media content to facilitate personal, social and global transformation.

Does GATE participate in strategic alliances?

Of course we are open to strategic alliances. Our evaluation criteria is stringent as we seek to create and maintain a professional image and relationship with the “Hollywood” community which necessitates a higher level of discernment. We will post guidelines / criteria for evaluating such partnerships in this website.

Please feel free to propose ways in which you feel your organization and GATE can work together.
