GATE Deep Well Listening Sessions:

Going Beneath the Surface to Discover What is Alive in the Creative Community.

Deep Well Listening Sessions are intimate gatherings of creative artists and professionals who come together to explore the questions, challenges, possibilities, hopes and dreams that matter most to the creative life.

They are not lectures. They are not panels. They are not debates—and they are not designed primarily to produce quick answers.

They are opportunities to listen deeply.

We listen to one another.

We listen to our own experience.

We listen beneath the obvious question to discover the deeper question.

And, perhaps most importantly, we create enough space and silence to listen for what wants to emerge.

Each session begins with a significant question and unfolds as a shared inquiry. Participants speak from their own experience, listen without immediately judging or fixing, explore what lies beneath the surface, and discover insights that might not emerge through ordinary conversation.

The premise is simple: The wisdom is already in the room. Our job is to create the conditions for it to emerge.

The "well" is both metaphor and invitation: a source of experience, imagination, insight and collective wisdom from which we can all draw. And sometimes, when we go deep enough, we may discover that the question we came to discuss is not the question we actually needed to ask.

Deep Well Listening Sessions.

Come with a question.

Bring your experience.

Listen deeply.

See what emerges.

Deep Well Listening Sessions are held online, biweekly, and are invitation only gatherings. To request an invitation, please email visioneering1@gmail.com with “Deep Well” in the subject line.

Creative Campfire

Stories from the Creative Life

There is something timeless about gathering around a campfire.

We come together, share stories, listen to one another, laugh, remember, wonder—and sometimes discover that another person’s journey illuminates something about our own.

GATE Creative Campfire is a gathering place for creatives to share the stories behind their lives and work with other creatives.

Unlike the GATE Deep Well Listening Sessions, which invite us to go inward—to explore what is alive beneath the surface of our creative lives—Creative Campfire focuses more on the outer journey: the projects we've undertaken, the risks we've taken, the people we've encountered, the unexpected turns, the successes and failures, the discoveries, breakthroughs and challenges that have shaped our creative lives and work.

This is not a seminar or a masterclass. There are no experts at the front of the room and no expectation that anyone has all the answers.

Instead, one creative brings a story.

It might be the story of a film that took years to make, a piece of music that changed unexpectedly, a project that failed and taught something invaluable, a career turning point, an extraordinary collaboration, an unlikely opportunity, a difficult creative decision, or an experience that changed the way they approach their work.

Through these stories, wisdom is shared rather than taught.

Why Gather This Way?

Creative lives can sometimes feel surprisingly solitary. We may see the finished work, but rarely hear the stories behind it—the struggles, doubts, discoveries, accidents, relationships and moments of grace that brought the work into being.

Creative Campfire creates a space for those stories to be heard.

By listening to the journeys of other creatives, you may:

  • discover new perspectives on your own creative challenges;

  • learn from experiences you haven't yet had to navigate yourself;

  • gain practical and creative insights from the lived experience of others;

  • find encouragement when your own journey feels uncertain or difficult;

  • recognize that failures and unexpected turns can be meaningful parts of a creative life;

  • encounter people and perspectives you might never meet in the ordinary course of your work;

  • and perhaps see your own creative journey differently.

Just as importantly, you don't have to be the storyteller to benefit.

Sometimes what we need most is simply to hear how another creative found their way through something.

The Wisdom of the Circle

Creative Campfire is founded on a simple belief:

Every creative life contains wisdom worth sharing.

Not because every artist has become an expert, but because every genuine creative journey contains experience, insight, discovery and hard-won understanding.

When we share those experiences generously—and listen without judgment—we become part of one another's creative journeys.

The campfire becomes a place where stories are passed from one person to another, where experience becomes wisdom, and where wisdom becomes nourishment for the creative community.

Come bring a story.

Come listen to someone else's story.

Come sit around the fire.

Our creative journeys may be different,
but we don't have to walk them alone.

Visioneering

The Creative Strategy Question Forum

Bring a question. Get perspective. Learn from the room. Move your work forward.

Every creative project eventually raises practical questions:

How do I get this work seen? Who is my audience? How should I position myself? What makes this project newsworthy? Do I need publicity? How should I approach marketing? What should I do next?

Visioneering is a group forum for creatives who want practical, experienced perspective on the real-world challenges of bringing their entertainment, arts and media work into the world.

Participants are invited to bring questions about their projects, careers and professional challenges and explore them in an open, supportive group setting. Drawing upon decades of experience in entertainment, arts, media, publicity, marketing, branding and creative strategy, John Raatz provides preliminary guidance, perspective, ideas and practical how-to insights designed to help participants see new possibilities and take their next step.

Topics may include:

  • Public relations and publicity

  • Marketing and audience development

  • Branding and positioning

  • Career development

  • Project and creative strategy

  • Communicating the value of your work

  • Finding and connecting with your audience

  • Creating visibility and momentum

  • Understanding how the entertainment, arts and media landscape works

  • Knowing what to do next

More Than Answers

Visioneering isn't simply about getting your question answered.

GATE Creative Intelligence

Listening to the creative community. Learning from it. Shaping what comes next.

GATE Creative Intelligence convenes carefully selected groups of creatives to explore specific questions that matter to their lives, work and future—and to the future of entertainment, arts and media.

Unlike a conventional focus group, Creative Intelligence is not designed simply to test an idea or measure a reaction. It is an opportunity to go deeper: to discover what creatives are thinking, experiencing, questioning, wanting, fearing, imagining and becoming.

Each gathering is intentionally composed around a particular question, theme or area of inquiry. GATE moderators facilitate candid, focused conversations designed to surface insights that might otherwise remain unseen or unspoken.

What we learn helps GATE shape its programming, initiatives, language, communications, educational offerings, research, marketing and strategic direction.

And when the inquiry reveals something of broader significance, GATE may compile, synthesize and publish the findings as a resource for the creative community—including special reports, white papers, essays and an annual State of the Creative report.

Creative Intelligence is GATE listening with a purpose: turning the lived experience and collective wisdom of creatives into insight, understanding and action.

GATE Explorations

Short journeys into the ideas, questions and possibilities that matter to the creative life.

The creative life asks more of us than simply making things.

It asks us to understand who we are, why we create, what we are here to contribute, and how we can bring our work into the world with greater clarity, integrity and purpose.

GATE Explorations are short, focused online gatherings for creatives who want to go deeper into the ideas and questions that shape a creative life.

Each Exploration takes up a particular subject—sometimes practical, sometimes philosophical, sometimes personal—and opens it up for thoughtful inquiry, fresh perspectives and meaningful conversation.

These are not conventional classes or lectures. They are opportunities to explore.

To look beneath the surface.
To question assumptions.
To connect seemingly unrelated ideas.
To discover perspectives that may change how you see your work—and yourself.

Topics may range from the deeply personal to the profoundly practical:

  • The Inner Life of the Artist

  • The Artist as Mystic and Merchant

  • Creativity as Sacred Obligation

  • Consciousness, Creativity & Calling

  • Providence & the Creative Life

  • The Business of Being an Artist

  • Creative Resilience

  • Finding and Following Your Calling

  • The Highest First

  • Making a Living Without Losing Your Soul

  • The Creative Life & Money

  • Bringing an Idea Into the World

Some Explorations may draw upon GATE's foundational principles and spiritual perspective. Others may draw upon decades of experience in entertainment, arts, media, creativity, branding, career development and transformational work.

What they share is a belief that the outer life of the artist cannot be separated from the inner life of the artist.

Come curious.

You don't have to arrive with answers.

You don't even have to agree.

Simply bring your experience, your questions and your willingness to look at something from a different perspective.

GATE Explorations are designed to leave you with something to think about, something to consider, and perhaps something to see differently when you return to your creative life.

30–60 minutes • Online • Focused • Experiential • Open to all creatives
